Those readers who’ve spent summers at Timber Tops know that July 4th is one of the BEST days at camp. Though earlier in our season this year (not even a week into camp) and though amidst some stormy weather (okay, it’s been raining all night and morning), we’re having one of our best Independence Day celebrations to date!
Let’s backtrack. Last night’s Senior Lip Sync was awesome, and now Juniors are jumping out of their skin for their own shot at Lip Sync in a few nights. So after evening program, as the rest of camp headed back to the bunk, our oldest campers (CAs! Jaggery! All the same thing!) creeped into the dining hall and spent hours decorating with signs, balloons, banners, streamers and more. Camp looks unbelievable, maybe the most festive decorations for July 4th to date.
After late sleep (woohoo!), we walked into breakfast to a July 4th wonderland! Not only did breakfast look amazing, but it tasted even more amazing than it looked! The menu? Well, in addition to our usual cereal, yogurt, cottage cheese bar, we had Creme Brûlée French Toast with strawberries (red), blueberries (blue) and whipped cream (white). YUM! As if that weren’t enough, and in Camp Timber Tops tradition, a box of Krispy Kreme donuts awaited each bunk!
Next stop? The Fitness Center for The Battle of Greeley! We competed, we danced, we sang, and we wore our 4th of July finest. The battle ended with an American vs. International staff karaoke contest and the USA won! Of course! Check out tonight’s CampMinder post for some fab photos!
And the rest of the day? Well, lunch is a BBQ of course, followed by a carnival on Hughie Field (the rain has stopped!). Think bunk stations, blowup carnival rides and an obstacle course in the pool. In fact, Circus Time is already here setting up! We’re so excited.
But of all the fun and surprises today, there will be nothing quite like those 4th of July fireworks with the boys from Lake Owego. We’ll eat red, white and blue popsicles, gather together on upper field, and enjoy a spectacular display under the magnificent Greeley sky. This is just one of those camp days that your girls will never forget. No matter where they travel, no matter where July 4th takes them, there will never be anything as awesome as this day at camp.
Happy 4th of July from all of us at CTT!
