Makin’ it Count

We are making the most of every moment at camp together, and today was no exception.

Juniors started the morning at  COSTA’S FAMILY FUN PARK! We love Costa’s because it’s a family-run, local (8 miles down the road!) and FUN! We give our campers passes for the go carts, bumper boats, mini golf, batting cages, water slides, and the arcade. We also buy each camper an ice cream cone, of course. Campers had the BEST time, and they were happy to spend the morning on this extra-special outing. Then, Seniors went in the afternoon! They loved it. Hi-Seniors are off tomorrow!

While the seniors headed to Costa’s this afternoon, our Juniors participated in two periods of awesome Super Choice. Popular activities included cooking, outdoor cooking, media, lake fun, gymnastics, and the adventure course. A special shout-out goes to to our dancers who have been taking intensive classes with Kelli Moshen. They have learned a tremendous amount in just a few days. Oh, and we had a great basketball intensive this afternoon at Lake Owego! It was a great and busy day.

Tonight? IT’S SECOND SESSION OLD TIMERS NIGHT! First, let us assure you that new timers have an awesome party of their own, so fear not, moms and dads. But, here’s the truth: Timber Tops girls REALLY look forward to being Old Timers (which is what we call campers who’ve been at camp for 3 or more years).

The old timers party starts with a walk to the 10-year tree where 10-year old timers are inducted onto the tree by our head staff members. Each person is honored and spoken about. It’s a great and emotional ceremony where Timber Tops’ finest are given a moment in the spotlight.

Next? ICE CREAM PARTY TIME! Old timer campers AND counselors storm the dining hall, sit by year at camp, and basically sing every single camp song and cheer (including past Olympic and Pioneer Day songs) in recent (and not so recent) memory. They’re called up to the sundae bar by year at camp (longest at camp goes first and eats sundaes off of plates, of course), and they sing for hours. Is there any other Timber Tops way? OH! Old timers get a special gift too. And 8-year old timers get a special old timer’s shirt!

In short, ice cream, ice cream, and more ice cream. That sums it up!

Good night from down the winding road!
