Opening Day 2019!

It’s here! It’s finally here! The first day of CTT 2019! We’re so excited we could burst!

Excited campers arrived in droves, and they brought with them the best weather we’ve seen in these mountains in weeks! The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and sounds of excited campers filled the air, the dining hall, the junior village, the senior hill and, well, you get the picture! It was a picture perfect day at Timber Tops!

After busloads of happy campers rolled in, we all enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch in the dining hall (think regular pizza, gluten-free pizza, dairy-free pizza, white pizza, red pizza, whole wheat pizza… You’ve never seen so many pizzas!) complete with eggplant parmesan, broccoli, a salad bar with greek salads, tuna salads, make-your-own salads and more! Then, back to the bunks! Even though our 2nd through 5th graders had their areas unpacked before their arrival (so they walked into colorful, clean, organized spaces!), it was the perfect opportunity to get comfortable in our summer home. The afternoon brought ice breakers, health screenings at the health center (including a screening by professional lice company Lice Be Gone), and junior organized games and s’mores (YUM) on the shores of Lake Selma! Juniors had their first junior meeting to learn important things like key players, rules and SONGS! And seniors chose their first week schedules. All of these activities took so much energy that we were ready and hungry for our first camp dinner: brisket! And mashed potatoes, coleslaw, roasted cauliflower, green beans, biscuits, gravy, cranberry sauce, applesauce, a full salad bar (always pre-made salads like tuna, egg salad and more and make-your-own salads), and always a pasta bar option!

A highlight of the first day of camp every year is what happens after dinner. Lineup (where we gather as a camp for announcements but more importantly we sing and dance together), bunk rules, and then the first evening program of the summer: THE STAFF SHOW! We learn who’s who at camp and what’s in store at each activity, all while enjoying an evening snack. And the staff show is also where we announce the the Song of the Summer! Every year, we rewrite a song to reflect Timber Tops life! It’s the song we use to signal the start of lineup each day, and we choreograph a dance the whole camp participates in during lineup every morning and every evening (don’t fear, non-dancers: it’s a fun-for-all, goofy, campy dance). In a way, it becomes the summer’s anthem, and its reveal is THE MOST anticipated moment of the first day, since both the song and dance become such a big part of our routine here. You’ll see us doing it in the coming days (check our our Facebook page!).  So, at tonight’s staff show it was finally revealed…

After the show is over and we sing the Timber Tops Alma Mater, campers will make their way back to their bunks, their home away from home for the next seven (or 3.5!) weeks. Though they may look like ordinary wooden cabins from the outside, inside each lies that CTT magic, the story of summer 2019 just waiting to be written. In short, the day was awesome, but the best is yet to come, friends and followers.

Thanks for reading, and make sure to check back tomorrow evening for tales of our first full day at camp!

P.S. Make sure to check your email inbox for an e-blast with your camper’s bunk information and other important camp things! Also, we’ve uploaded photos from today, so make sure to check our your CampMinder account! Whew! We’ll sleep well tonight!

Woah
Woah
Camp brings an energy I’ve never felt before
A kind of mountain air just reaches through my core
Feels like
Camp Timber Tops, it has never been a choice
You feel like home, hmm
Come down the winding road you’ll find me in the lake
Or up on Hughie Field just staring into space
I know
Camp Timber Tops, you can never be replaced
You feel like home
So won’t you come join me
You’ll never be alone
Summer sisters in our hearts
Summer sisters in our heart
Oh,
Cause camp is in our bones
Cause camp is in our bones.
And I know when I’m with you I am as happy as can be
That’s how you know, that’s how I know
I feel it in my bones
And I know when I’m with you I am as happy as can be
That’s how you know, that’s how I know
I feel it in my bones
Under the Greeley sky we’ll laugh and swim and play
No matter where we go this feeling’s gonna stay, that’s right
Cause for you and me, there is no other way
You feel like home, oh
So won’t you come join me
You’ll never be alone
Summer sisters in our hearts
Summer sisters in our heart
Oh,
Cause camp is in our bones
Cause camp is in our bones.
And I know when I’m with you I am as happy as can be (hey)
That’s how you know, that’s how I know
I feel it in my bones
I feel it in my bones
I feel it in my bones
That’s how you know, that’s how I know
So won’t you come join me
You’ll never be alone
Summer sisters in our hearts
Summer sisters in our heart
Oh,
Cause camp is in our bones
Cause camp is in our bones.
And i know when i’m with you i am as happy as can be
that’s how i know that how you know
I feel it in my bones
I feel it in my bones
i feel it in my bones
That’s how you know, that’s how I know
I feel it in my bones
