The First Day of Camp…

Here’s a post from Teddy Lake, one of our oldest campers, on her first day at Timber Tops! We can’t wait to welcome so many new CTT campers in June!!!

CTT, campers: send us your first-day-of-camp memories! We’d love to share your stories too!

The plane had landed two hours ago and we were still driving through the forest. It was late at night, but I was anything but tired. I was taking in everything. I kept staring out the window into the woods that didn’t exist back home in California. Finally after dropping off the PFC and LOC kids we finally pulled into camp, in what was my first drive down the winding road (wow). We came to a stop in front of what I would soon find out was the Dance Pavilion. It was too dark to see anything well, but on the porch of the office was a group of head staff, all of them smiling and waving, despite the fact that it was nearly 11pm. After completing some housekeeping information, I was told my bunk. A woman named Helen (love her!) walked me there. While we were walking, I tried my best to get a good look at where I would be spending the next 4 weeks; it was just too impossibly dark. Finally we got to Bunk Ash and Helen said, “Welcome to your new home” right before opening the doors. I expected everyone to be asleep, but they were all awake and sitting on their beds, waiting for me. 100 “do you know any famous people”s later we had to go to bed. The next morning I got my first look at camp. I wrote my mom a letter saying “Mom, I love it here”, and I haven’t stopped coming since

Teddy was Conrad Birdie in last summer's production of Bye Bye Birdie!
